Our Central Queensland (CQ) region is home to world-class producers and exporters, including global leaders in black coal, two of the world’s largest alumina refineries, Australia’s largest aluminium smelter, and the country’s largest cement plant. The region also boasts three major Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects and Queensland’s largest multi-commodity shipping port, all contributing significantly to the state’s export earnings.
CQ powers Queensland, with large-scale power stations, including the state’s biggest, and additional electricity capacity generated at key energy hubs, which together account for 40% of the state’s power generation.
The region supports a thriving livestock industry with three abattoirs and is also home to one of the world’s largest magnesia plants.
Agriculture plays a major role in our region’s economy, with notable production of lucerne, cotton, and other crops. The CQ region also sits within the Bowen Basin, rich in coal resources, which is mined and transported through an extensive railway network to key port facilities within the region and beyond.
